The obverse of the coin depicts a motif of railway tracks that transition into the silhouette of a female body. In the lower part of the coin are two stamps, which refer to Hrabal's novel "Ostře sledované vlaky" (Closely Watched Trains).

Along the left, upper, and right edges of the coin is the name of the state "ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA". The denomination with the currency abbreviation "200 Kč" is in the centre of the depiction of the tracks along the upper edge of the coin. The coin was struck by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou; its mark is to the left of the left stamp.

The reverse of the coin features a portrait of Bohumil Hrabal. Along the left, bottom, and right edges of the coin is the inscription "BOHUMIL HRABAL", which partially extends into the lower part of the portrait.

The year "1914" is above the collar of the portrait and the year "2014" is on the collar of the portrait. The designer of the coin is academic sculptor Vladimír Oppl. His mark is located above the depiction of the years.

Each coin is supplied with an orange catalogue card featuring a description of the coin and its embossed depiction.
