Gold Coin – Municipal Heritage Reserve Litoměřice – CNB 2022 – Proof Quality

The fourth gold coin in the Czech National Bank's ten-part Municipal Heritage Reserves series was issued on 4 October 2022.

The Municipal Heritage Reserves series presents, in gold, the most historically significant town centres of the Czech Republic — and Litoměřice holds a remarkable place among them as one of the oldest royal towns in Bohemia, its Renaissance-Baroque townscape rising almost unaltered above its Gothic foundations.

Litoměřice ranks among the most important historic towns of northern Bohemia. The royal town was founded between 1219 and 1228 by Přemysl Otakar I, originally as a strategic centre at the crossroads of trade routes running into Central Europe. In the late Middle Ages the town became a significant site of Hussite activity — its acceptance of the Four Articles of Prague in 1421 lent its name to an entire era. After the Thirty Years' War, the town was transformed in the Baroque style under the Italian architect Octavio Broggio, whose imprint remains visible in the historic core to this day. The distinctive Kalich House, its tower shaped like a wine chalice, unites two Litoměřice traditions at once: the Hussite legacy and the celebrated viticulture of the region known as the Garden of Bohemia. The historic centre was designated a Municipal Heritage Reserve in 1978.

The obverse features heraldic animals from the Greater State Coat of Arms — the Bohemian Lion, the Moravian Eagle and the Silesian Eagle — and, in the lower field, the facades and gabled rooftops of the town square's Baroque and Classicist houses. The reverse carries a composition of the Reserve's most significant architectural landmarks: from left, a Baroque house at Mírové náměstí 21/13, the Gothic town tower of All Saints' Church, the Renaissance Kalich House with its chalice-shaped tower, the Renaissance Old Town Hall, and a Classicist-modified house at Mírové náměstí 19/11.

The coin is struck in fine gold (Au 999.9/1000), weighing 15.55 g, in Proof finish with a mintage of 10,176 pieces — combining the intrinsic value of the precious metal with the collector appeal of a limited issue occupying a fixed place in the CNB's prestigious ten-coin cycle.

The coin is in excellent condition, housed in its original CNB plastic case. The CNB certificate card (red, with description and relief image of the coin) is included.

The coin and certificate card will be dispatched promptly within 2–3 working days of payment being credited to the bank account, via fully insured registered post (Czech Post).

Delivery within the Czech Republic; international shipping available upon prior arrangement and payment of postage.
